Once again GPS to be the primary navigation system for the Roof of Africa Rally
To all competitors
In line with governing Lesotho environmental code and policy, and international trends, LORA has elected to carry on the process of eliminating the painting of the Lesotho countryside. The move to GPS navigation is a clear indication of LORA’s commitment to insuring the sustainability of the sport and the event in the Kingdom of Lesotho through responsible social and environmental practices.
In light of this, the 2011 Roof of Africa, as was the with the 2010 event shall have an even more reduced level of marking, only key navigational junctures will be marked, GPS navigation will therefore be very important and is highly recommended. For the 2012 Roof of Africa GPS navigation will be compulsory and 2013 shall mark the start of a paint free Roof of Africa.
LORA recommends competitors use two GPS units, a Fortrex 301 set at 80m and a Etrex 20 set at about 200m
In an effort to facilitate LORA will be running a special on the Garmin Fortrex 301 and the Etrex 20, there will be a limited amount of units for sale at registration so it is best that riders obtain these units before coming to Lesotho. The Fortrex 301 will be on sale for R1250 and the Etrex 20 for R1750.
See you in Lesotho, and happy navigating
LORA
