    Route INFORMATION

Just a basic outline of the 2011 route, as the sections get finalized more in depth information will be made available through the media and on the web site. For more information see our contact page

The 2011 Roof will consist of three classes; Gold, Silver and Bronze, entry fee will be R3000.00 for Gold R2600 for Silver and R2200.00 for Bronze, During the event you may downgrade classes but never upgrade. For example if you enter Gold and get time barred at the Silver finish the following day you may start as Silver and will only be classified as a Silver finisher for the remainder of the event. If you enter as Bronze you have to finish at the Bronze finish, you can not continue past this point. If you are uncertain of your ability rather enter a higher class and be able to downgrade during the event.

The 2011 Roof will be run as a three stage event, namely the time trial (Thursday), racing section 2 (Friday) and racing section 3 (Saturday). Round the houses will not be scored and will only determine your start position for the time trial. Results for all racing stages will be posted daily along with the overall standings, for each class Gold, Silver and Bronze.

    ROUND THE HOUSES

Will be run as normal, a three lap race around the streets of Maseru

    TIME TRIAL

After round the houses, riders will proceed to the time trial start on the outskirts of Maseru, this section will be no more than 60 km in length. The organisers will attempt to make this section slower than last year but if this racing section is to tight, it will result in major bottlenecks, generally it will be a faster section in comparison to the other racing sections, but that has always been a feature of the Roof of Africa!!

    RACING SECTION 1

This racing section will be made up of  a combination of intermediate and advanced climbs of which the Bronze competitors will be expected to complete approximately 50% of this section, The Silver competitors will be expected to complete 75% of this section. The route will increase in difficulty as the day progresses and will be approximately 250 - 300 km. in length

    RACING SECTION 2

This racing section will be a selection of more advanced climbs of which the Bronze competitors will be expected to complete approximately 50% of this section, The Silver competitors will be expected to complete 75% of this section. This section will be approximately 150 - 200 km. in length The final section of the race will get extremely difficult and should only be attempted by the super fit, super strong or the super stupid.
